After just five months of trading, The Cock Inn, Mugginton has been crowned with its first prestigious accolade, Best Pub in Derbyshire as named by the National Pub and Bar Awards this week. The pub has seen immense success and overwhelming numbers since it opened, despite its rural location.
The pub is owned by independent Derbyshire business Berkeley Inns, who own 3 pubs in the surrounding area and will now be thrown into the National spotlight, as they’re subsequently in the running to become Best Pub in the UK.
The pub opened in November after almost 10 years of closure, having once been extremely popular with village locals and city dwellers alike. Following a £1 million renovation, creating a contemporary Mezzanine dining area, polished main restaurant complete with open, planned garden room and traditional Farmer’s Bar - something that has stayed distinctly similar to the design in its former hay-day, the pub welcomes guests from all over the county on a daily basis.
The official ceremony in which The Cock Inn will collect their county award will take place at London’s BAFTA on May 23rd, where the staff hope to be coming home with one more award, that of Best Pub in the UK. While there is stiff competition, the team are immensely proud of this significant achievement, especially so early on and hope this will only bring plenty of new faces to their charming venue.
