Not everybody is able to make centre court this summer, but residents of Derby now have the advantage, as local artisans of sweet treats, Heavenly Desserts, put a spin on the strawberries and cream classic just in time for Wimbledon

The new Wimbledon focussed frappe, has been created to celebrate the 140th anniversary of Wimbledon’s love affair with strawberries, with Heavenly Desserts experts developing the perfect match including fresh British strawberries at its heart to make the new iced Strawberry and Yoghurt Frappe.

Heavenly Desserts’ Derby store manager, Richard Bates, said; “With the hottest June in 40 years and Wimbledon around the corner, what better way to cool off than with a new cooling taste of British summer and Wimbledon.”

With only 200 spectators at the first Wimbledon tournament 1877, the partnership of strawberries and Wimbledon tennis had begun. Fast forward 140 years and on any one day 39,000 fans will be courtside.

Last year at Wimbledon, the crowds enjoyed 28,000kg of strawberries and over 10,000 litres of fresh cream, cementing this double as one of the nation’s favourite pairings, and the iconic dish of the Wimbledon fortnight.

“Strawberries are the most popular addition to our dishes on the Heavenly Desserts menu, and to celebrate the start of Wimbledon with the new Strawberry and Yoghurt Frappe gives us the chance to bring a taste of the world-renowned tournament to Derby,” said Yousif Aslam, Managing Director of the luxury Heavenly Desserts concept.

To accompany the new match winning Strawberry Frappe, the Heavenly Desserts café in Derby has also added a new wider range of iced drinks to help cool off visitors from the summer sun including a mocha, caffe, sticky toffee, chocolate, cookies & cream, raspberry yoghurt, mango yoghurt and banana yogurt frappes also available.

To net yourself one of the new frappe’s this summer, head down to the Heavenly Desserts Café on Intu Shopping Centre, London Rd in Derby or visit www.heavenlydesserts.co.uk to find out more.
