One of the city’s best-known restaurants is changing direction as it unveils a move into modern gastro dining, with a new emphasis on simplicity, flavours and satisfying dishes.

The renowned Sheffield city centre restaurant, which built its reputation on fine dining and local produce, is stepping away from the world of smaller plates and tasting menus and placing Yorkshire appetites firmly at the heart of its new menus.

The shift reflects a wider trend across the UK restaurant sector, where a growing number of eateries are moving away from tasting-style dining towards more traditional à la carte menus, offering greater choice and more substantial meals.

Silversmiths’ new menus retain a strong emphasis on locally sourced ingredients and refined cooking, but with a more generous approach to both flavour and portion size.

Executive Chef at Ascent Leisure Group, Tom Wells-Lomas, said the move was a natural progression: “Silversmiths has always been about quality ingredients and strong foundations. This is about building on that with food that not only looks good, but delivers in terms of satisfaction. We’re all about getting that balance right.”

The restaurant’s new Sunday lunch menu – for example - places particular emphasis on hearty, traditional dining, with options including roast beef, roast chicken, honey roast ham and a three-meat roast, all served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and trimmings.

Silversmiths have also unveiled new menus for its Supper Club, Pre-Theatre and Bottomless Brunch. There is also a brand new A La Carte menu.

Silversmiths first gained national attention when it was relaunched by Gordon Ramsay on Kitchen Nightmares, transforming the former Runaway Girl into a restaurant focused on fresh, locally sourced produce.

Ascent Leisure Group’s Tom Wells-Lomas was originally trained by Gordon Ramsey. The Rosette-winning chef was formerly head chef at the city’s Brocco On The Park.

Ascent Leisure Group run a growing number of leading hospitality venues including Panenka, Grappa, Selena and Lykke.
