After a three-week closure and major refurbishment, The Bakewell Tart Shop has officially reopened - unveiling a fresh new look, exciting customer experiences, and a future-focused vision for expansion across the Peak District.

The much-loved, 100-year-old café and shop in the heart of Bakewell has been transformed into a brighter, more modern space. A new café layout, streamlined single service counter, updated flooring, refurbished toilets, and upgraded electrics are now in place - all designed to offer a more welcoming and efficient experience for visitors.

Owner Duncan Kirk said:

“This transformation is about taking The Bakewell Tart Shop into the future. It’s not just about a fresh look, but a modernised service and a forward-thinking business model. This is just the beginning - we’re excited about expanding the model throughout the Peak District.”

What’s New?

World Map of Bakewell Visitors

A new 3-metre-wide feature at the front of the shop invites customers to place a coloured pin with their name and date on their home country - a colourful visual record of Bakewell’s international appeal.

The Good Cup

The shop is introducing an eco-friendly takeaway cup that eliminates plastic lids. Made entirely from paper, these cups are recyclable and home-compostable - part of the shop’s commitment to sustainability.

Curated Menus

The Bakewell Tart Shop has partnered with Curated Menu Software Ltd to offer a UK-first digital solution for customers with allergies or dietary preferences. The easy-to-use system generates a personalised, safe-to-eat menu for each customer.

Refreshed Menu & Gifting

The updated menu includes new  range of specialty teas, sandwiches, and salad bowls - plus all the beloved cakes, bakes and Bakewell Tarts the shop is famous for. A new selection of gifts and a limited alcohol offering (including single-serve prosecco, G&Ts, beer, and cider) add to the relaxed and vibrant atmosphere.
