Four products made by Derbyshire farm shop Croots have been named as finalists in the 2020 Great British Food Awards.
Croots Lemon Drizzle Cake and Croots Marzipan Mince Pies were shortlisted in the sweet bakes and pies award, while the farm shop’s Vegan Tomato Sausage and Vegan Cumberland Sausage both made the final in the free-from award.
Steve Croot, who runs the farm shop at Wirksworth Road near Duffield with wife Kay, said: “This is fantastic news for Croots Farm Shop. The Great British Food Awards are national awards, so we are absolutely thrilled to have had four of our home-made products selected as finalists.”
Croots was also recently chosen as a finalist in the Great Food Club Awards, which celebrate the East Midlands’ best food and drink independents.
Matt Wright, Great Food Club founder and the organiser of the Great Food Club Awards, said: “During July 2020, our readers and members cast nearly 6,000 votes in response to the following question: Which independent food or drink business has brought you the most joy over the past 12 months? We chose the finalists after counting and analysing all the votes.”
These recent accolades are the latest in a long line of awards achieved by Croots Farm Shop since it opened its doors more than 12 years ago. Specialising in supplying local and regional food and drink, as well as offering an ever-expanding range of home-made products, Croots Farm Shop is based on the farm where Kay Croot grew up and where her family still farms and breeds Shire horses.
It offers food and drink from almost 50 suppliers who are within a 50-mile radius of the shop – helping to support a wide range of family and local businesses. It also offers an extensive selection of food, drink, cheeses and deli items from further afield, along with gift ideas, wines and spirits.
“These four products that have reached the final of the Great British Food Awards – lemon drizzle cake, marzipan mince pies, vegan tomato sausage and vegan Cumberland sausage – are really popular with our customers and we are excited to hear that they have wowed the judges too,” added Steve.
“Our meat sausages have won stacks of awards but we wanted to make sure that our vegan and vegetarian customers didn’t miss out on our great-tasting bangers, so we created some plant-based sausages and it’s an honour to have these recognised for their taste and quality too.”
The winners of the Great British Food Awards will feature in the Autumn edition of Great British Food magazine.
Croots Farm Shop is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, while the café open hours are Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4pm and from 10am to 3.30pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
