Derby based mum and daughter duo Sarah and Olivia Pritchard recently scoped the prestigious Royal Crown Derby ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award at the Annual Marketing Derby Food and Drink Awards.
Derby’s food and drink industry descended on The Roundhouse to celebrate the awards, which are now in their 9th year and was hosted by Nick Britten.
This very special award was awarded to the duo for the massive impact they have had on Derby’s food and drink scene. From cafes, to burger bars, to street food, to a Scandinavian-style café, these two have continuously brought something different to Derby.
The mother and daughter duo’s story started back in the summer of 2010, where a chance encounter with Connect Derby’s Ann Bhatti made a recently redundant Sarah’s mind tick. Having found out that Friar Gate Studio was looking for a café operator, the mother and daughter had one night to submit a bid. This included logos, branding, menus and a business plan. Working all through the night, they submitted the bid in the morning. Needless to say, they were successful.
From that first site, the Pritchard Empire grew. A second café in Riverside Chambers was soon to follow, as was Rask, a Scandinavian-style café in Sadler Bridge Studios. The duo also serve up, what the public has branded as, the best burgers in Derby, at Hide Burger Bar. Liv has also been instrumental in bringing street food to Derby through Bustler Market, which also scooped the Best Newcomer Award at the ceremony.
The story of Bean Caffe is also the story of Derby and the story of how a mother and daughter duo with an entrepreneurial spirit are influencing what we eat and where we eat it. It’s this spirit that have taken both Sarah and Liv on an extraordinary journey and one that continues to bring exciting innovative ideas to the food scene in the City and beyond – long may that adventure continue. Sarah counts their success on hard work, determination, being positive but above all – listening and being perceptive to customer needs. With Liv putting it down to being dedicated, passionate, a positive attitude and always a smile. Having grown up surrounded by a family who worked in the catering industry Liv felt destined to join them.
John Forkin, Managing Director of Marketing Derby, said: "Sarah and Liv thoroughly deserved to win the Royal Crown Derby Outstanding Achievement Award at the ninth annual Marketing Derby Food and Drink Awards. The pair have had a significant impact on Derby's food and drink scene, with innovative approaches that always stand out. I look forward to seeing what they do next."
Speaking on receiving the outstanding achievement award, Sarah said: “It’s a huge honour to receive the outstanding achievement award and to be recognised among so many other fantastic businesses and people who work incredibly hard in the food business. Thank you very much we are all absolutely delighted.”
Liv, said: “It’s amazing to win this prestigious award. I want to thank Marketing Derby for recognizing all the hard graft of the talented staff, who day-to-day make all our businesses what they are. It makes everything worth it. I’m so happy for the team and most of all massively proud of them and the job we do together.”
