Seeing as Mummy Bird hadn’t been to Northumberland before we couldn’t leave out a visit to Lindisfarne/ Holy Island, so we headed out in the jalopy with doggo in tow, hoping to have lunch in the Manor Hotel again (it was lovely last time).
This day coincided with Queen Elizabeth’s funeral – RIP your Majesty - so The Manor Hotel team weren’t opening their doors until 4pm out of respect; luckily the tides were later which meant we’d planned to visit in the afternoon anyway.

I had a beautifully tasty mixed Crabmeat and Lemon Mayo Ciabatta with Coleslaw, Salad and Homemade Chips (£10, the chips were £3 extra), His Nibs and Fledge had impossibly crunchy Wholetail Scampi and Chips (£13), Mummy had Fish, Chips n Minted Mushy Peas (£15) and Geordie Bird had Mini Fish n Chips (fries) from the kids menu (£7).

The Scampi pieces were satisfyingly large and had brilliantly crunchy outers and the chips had that deliciously nutty earthiness to them that had the taste buds skipping with delight. I had been hoping that their Minted Mushy Peas might come my way, but no, His Nibs decided that he liked them and scoffed his – thankfully Fledge took pity on me and let me have hers as she was full enough form the Scampi and chips.

GB was clearly happy with the food on offer as mouthful after mouthful of her Fish disappeared into her tummy; Mummy Bird confirmed that the fish was gorgeously moist and had a lovely sweet note to its flavour. The food was as tasty as before and the welcome every bit as warm and friendly as I remembered too – no wonder we wanted to return.

Don’t worry, we hadn’t forgotten about poochy; he got some fish from Mummy and a bit of Crab from me to keep him going, so he was a happy pup!
