Well dear reader, we had a brilliant night at Byron Burger in Derbys’ Intu Centre yesterday (Monday) to celebrate their 10th Birthday and National Burger Day; the specially created “Gizzmo” Burger (a collaboration between Byrons’ and celeb Chef Gizzi Erskine) was a-ma-zing!!

Having such a fantastic night with the Byron Burger team got The Boy Wonder and I thinking about all the places we’ve had great burgers at, so here’s some inspiration for you if you’re in the mood to celebrate National Burger Day yourselves, this Thursday.

Byron Burger, Derby Intu Centre.

Obviously, Byron Burger is a must for any burger aficionado. Their burgers are made with four different cuts of beef to give them maximum flavour and juiciness that just melts in the mouth. I’m also a huge fan of their Courgette fries and Chickadee loves the Bacon Cheese fries; you can’t have a burger without good fries after all, can you? If you’re watching your Carbs then you can go skinny and ditch the bun and add salad; win-win.

Hide Burger Bar, Derby.

As with Byron, the burgers here are cooked medium pink, unless requested otherwise. This team use a flat top grill cooking method which they say allows the true flavour to reveal itself as it melts in the mouth. Simplicity is key with this talented team as they like the burger to shine and take centre-stage. They serve their burgers in a brioche bun and experiment with the perfect balance of ingredients in each variety of burger they serve; for the best experience they recommend not adding or subtracting any element.

The Brooklyn Social, Derby.

Located on Derbys’ Sadler Gate this joint is spread over three floors of a quirky building, and features a photo-booth, no less. All the burgers are whoppers it’s got be said; all the beef versions feature not one, but two patties so make sure you there ready to eat! Hot Dog lovers are also catered for, and there are Chicken and Veggie burgers to choose from too.

The Forge, Derby.

One thing’s for sure, you’re not short of choice at this Blacksmiths Yard venue; there are 25 different burgers to choose from and an option to create your own! Their burgers are a meaty 6oz size and come with a choice of side included in the price which keeps things nice and easy. This team let you choose what sort of bun you want your burger in; I had mine in a Ciabatta bun, The Man had classic Brioche.

If you want to head further afield, then Chesterfield has its own gem of a burger joint.

The Craft Burger Company, Chesterfield.

As well as a wide selection of burgers you can partake of a vast range of craft beers here; after all what partners a burger better than a cold beer? Tasty veggie, meat and Chicken burgers are all on offer and they’re all cooked fresh to order; ours were piping hot and very flavoursome. If you’re after a trendy, energetic vibe then this is the place to go in Chesterfield.

No burger list would be complete without a mention for Nottingham’s very own Annies Burger Shack, so here’s the low-down on a place that will soon be coming to Derby :)

Annies Burger Shack.

If it’s authentic, American burgers you’re after then look no further than Annies. This venue is not the place to go if it’s “fast food” you’re after, they want you to really soak in the whole experience of great food in great surroundings. The burgers themselves all have quirky names and there are competitions where Annie fans can create their own burgers with a chance of them featuring on the menu for limited times. Fries are included in the price of a burger, which is always goodJ. Toasted sesame buns provide the home for Annie’s burgers, along with simple bedfellows of Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato slices and Mayo.

So, what are you waiting for folks, getting booking a table at the venue of your choice and celebrate National Burger Day (Thursday 24th August, 2017). We might even see you there ourselves!
