Leopold Square was left with a hangover to savour as Cubana marked its 25th anniversary. Hundreds of people that have all played their own unique role in the success story were treated to a night of live music, dancing, tapas and cocktails.
Cubana’s 25th Birthday Fiesta Grande was a fitting tribute to the venue that has shaped Sheffield’s Latin-inspired nightlife since opening on Trippet Lane in 2000.
Guests enjoyed a complimentary early bar, a tapas buffet and almost ten hours of live entertainment. Early highlights included Louis Louis Louis with a set of swing and rhythm & blues; The Mariachis from the Doritos ad performing pop classics with even a nod to Sheffield – it included a rousing rendition of the Human League’s
‘Don’t You Want Me’ – and a high energy samba dance spectacular courtesy of Samba De Janeiro.
Later in the night, a specially assembled Cubana Allstars collective — featuring musicians who’ve played at the venue over the years — took the celebration into full stride before DJs Anna de Orte and Ebo closed the evening with salsa, samba and Latin house.
Cubana Co-owners Adrian Bagnoli and Brad Charlesworth said it was fitting way to thank 25 years of loyal custom.
Adrian said: “Celebrating with top class entertainment, and in style with many of the friends, customers and staff that have supported us over the years was genuinely moving. Twenty-five years is a landmark for any independent venue, and nights like this show why Cubana continues to mean so much to people. It really is part of Cubana's DNA to throw a class party 😊.”
Brad added: “From Trippet Lane to Leopold Square, it’s been an incredible journey. Sheffield has supported us from day one and we’re hugely grateful.”
