Food lovers in Derby have a brand-new culinary adventure to look forward to, as Derby Market Hall launches its Saturday Supper Club.

The Supper Club will feature a rotating lineup of talented local guest chefs, creating an intimate dining experience with a difference inside the Grade II-listed building.

The events are hosted by Mark’s Wilder Gardens, whose owner Mark Cummings wanted to bring a taste of his experiences in London to Derby.

Guests will be welcomed with a glass of fizz before being seated in a beautifully transformed, exclusive dining space. The highlight of the evening is a bespoke three-course menu crafted by that month’s featured guest chef.

Each menu will be completely unique to the Saturday Supper Club, showcasing fine ingredients sourced as locally as possible to celebrate the region’s best produce. To conclude the meal, guests will enjoy a choice of fine tea or freshly-brewed coffee.

There will also be a special selection of red and white wine pairings chosen by The Spirit Run available for purchase throughout the evening.

The limited series of events are scheduled for Saturday 4 July, Saturday 1 August, Saturday 29 August, Saturday 19 September, Saturday 3 October, and concluding on Saturday 24 October. To kick off the programme on Saturday 4 July, Derby Market Hall’s own Arepita will be taking over the kitchen to create an exclusive, fully gluten-free menu of authentic Venezuelan dishes tailored for people with coeliac disease or gluten intolerance.

Mark, who runs Mark’s Wilder Gardens on the Market Hall’s first floor, said: “The inspiration for the Saturday Supper Club came from experiencing supper clubs in London. There’s a magic to enjoying exceptional food in a small, intimate setting, combined with the anticipation of a surprise menu and the excitement of not knowing who your dining companions will be for the evening.

“I wanted to bring that to Derby Market Hall, creating a completely different kind of dining experience for the city – giving talented local guest chefs the freedom to flex their culinary muscles, while giving the people of Derby the chance to taste something truly different.”

Councillor Gurkiran Kaur, Derby City Council Cabinet Member for City Centre, Culture and Tourism, said:

“Since Derby Market Hall reopened, it’s become home to a growing mix of independent businesses and events. The Saturday Supper Club is a great example of the creative experiences helping to attract people into the city centre, support local traders and showcase everything the Market Hall has to offer.”

The supper clubs can accommodate vegan and vegetarian options with advance notice.

Tickets for the Saturday Supper Club cost £36 per person, which includes a glass of fizz on arrival, a three-course meal, and tea or coffee to finish. The next event is on Saturday 4 July and tickets are available now through the Derby Market Hall website.
