Fresh from being added to the Michelin Guide, Peak Edge Hotel has launched two farm-to-fork afternoon tea experiences celebrating local produce, Peak District provenance and the ingredients produced on its own estate.

The four-star hotel and two AA Rosette Red Lion Restaurant, located on the edge of the Peak District near Chesterfield, is now offering guests a choice of a traditional Classic Afternoon Tea or a Savoury Afternoon Tea, both priced at £30 per person.

Inspired by the surrounding Derbyshire countryside, the menus put local provenance at their heart, with produce from Peak Edge’s own Walton Lodge Farm Estate featuring prominently.

Located less than a mile from the hotel, the 320-acre Red Tractor-certified farm is owned by entrepreneur and hotel founder Steve Perez and is home to rare breed Belted Galloway cattle, Berkshire pigs and Dorset sheep, alongside free-range hens and beehives.

The Classic Afternoon Tea combines freshly prepared savouries with homemade cakes and traditional scones. The savoury selection includes a Walton Lodge sausage roll, golden Gruyère quiche, Walton Lodge ham salad sandwich, smoked salmon with lemon and black pepper mascarpone, and Walton Lodge egg mayonnaise and watercress sandwich.

Sweet treats include raspberry choux bun, grapefruit posset, carrot cake, Bakewell blondie, pavlova and lemon curd meringue tart, followed by freshly baked fruit and plain scones served with jam, Derbyshire clotted cream and butter.

For guests who prefer savoury to sweet, the hotel has also created a dedicated Savoury Afternoon Tea, taking the traditional afternoon tea format in a distinctly Peak District direction.

Its menu includes a fishfinger sandwich on toasted turmeric bread with sauce gribiche and crushed pea velouté Walton Lodge pork, apple and sage sausage roll; minted Walton Lodge lamb kofta with pickled chilli and raita; haggis and black pudding Scotch egg; mini Yorkshire pudding with Walton Lodge beef and creamed horseradish; mini Walton Lodge burger with smoked cheddar and pickled shallots; and a Stilton and walnut scone.

Even the savoury version finishes with a playful nod to dessert, with pizza fritta served with dark chocolate ganache and freeze-dried raspberries, and a sugar-battered Mars Bar with toffee honeycomb.

Both experiences are accompanied by a choice of speciality loose-leaf teas or coffee from Chesterfield-based Northern Tea Merchants. The extensive tea menu ranges from traditional English Breakfast, Earl Grey and Darjeeling to Gunpowder Green Tea, Moroccan Mint and Lemon and Ginger.

Guests looking to turn afternoon tea into a celebration can also choose from Prosecco, Champagne and English sparkling wine, as well as cocktails including the French 75, Elderflower Spritz, Champagne Cocktail and Peak Alexander.

Steve Perez, owner of Peak Edge Hotel and Walton Lodge Farm Estate, said:

“Afternoon tea is one of those great British traditions that never goes out of style, but today’s diners are increasingly interested in quality, provenance and knowing where their food comes from.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have Walton Lodge Farm on our doorstep and a talented team of chefs who are passionate about making the most of local ingredients. We wanted both menus to celebrate that connection between the farm, the landscape and the plate, while giving people the choice between the traditional afternoon tea experience and something a little different.

“The Peak District attracts visitors from across the country looking for memorable experiences, whether that’s a special celebration, a catch-up with friends or simply an excuse to slow down and enjoy great food in beautiful surroundings. We wanted to create something that feels indulgent, welcoming and unmistakably Derbyshire.”

The launch follows a landmark year for Peak Edge, which was recently added to the Michelin Guide, joining a select group of Derbyshire venues recognised by the internationally respected dining guide. The recognition sits alongside the hotel’s four-star status and the Red Lion Restaurant’s two AA Rosettes.

Peak Edge also picked up silver at the Hotel of the Year finals at the 2026 VisitEngland Awards, following gold in Hotel of the Year and silver in Restaurant of the Year at the Visit Peak District, Derbyshire & Tourism Awards.

Classic and Savoury Afternoon Tea are both priced at £30 per person and are served Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 5pm. Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance, with a £10 per person deposit required at the time of booking.

Guests are asked to specify their choice of Classic or Savoury Afternoon Tea for each person when booking.
