The Red Lion Restaurant at Peak Edge Hotel has unveiled a beautifully designed, temperature-controlled wine cellar - a bespoke feature by Sorrells, the luxury wine cellar specialists behind designs for The Ritz, Galvin La Chapelle, and The Dorchester.
This elegant new cellar allows guests to physically step inside the wine list. Surrounded by softly lit oak shelving and glass doors, visitors can see, hold, and explore the bottles up close, speak to experienced sommelier Adrian Tinis, and enjoy a truly immersive experience as part of their evening.
Designed by Sorrells to ensure optimum wine storage conditions, the cellar features professional-grade insulation, ambient lighting, and advanced climate control - preserving both the quality and presentation of every bottle. The result is a stunning centrepiece and a practical enhancement to the Red Lion’s carefully curated wine programme.
Cellar highlights include the 2006 Petrus at £3,050 and the nearly 100 year old 1927 Bastardo. Magnums to enjoy with friends and family are also a feature, including Whispering Angel, and other popular names. That is alongside a number of other wine varieties - from crisp whites and champagne to fruity reds and vibrant roses - at a wide range of price points.
“This isn’t just a storage space - it’s a talking point,” says Adrian. “Our cellar brings wine to life. Guests can explore the labels, ask questions, and connect with the people and stories behind each bottle. It’s all about making wine feel approachable, inspiring and memorable.”The cellar plays a central role in the Red Lion’s Wine Series - a collection of exclusive evenings designed to take guests on a journey through the world’s most exciting wine regions. Each event is crafted by Adrian in collaboration with his international network of winemakers, educators and suppliers, and paired with dishes from the restaurant’s acclaimed kitchen.
Mark Thurman, Managing Director at Peak Edge Hotel, added:
“This is another exciting step forward in our commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences for our guests. The new wine cellar not only adds theatre and depth to our dining offer - it also reflects the high standards, craftsmanship and passion we bring to everything we do at Peak Edge. We’re incredibly proud to offer something truly unique for our region.”
Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, Peak Edge Hotel is a 4-star, family-owned retreat with 27 stylish, luxury bedrooms and stunning countryside views. Its award-winning 2 AA Rosette Red Lion Restaurant is renowned for its modern take on classic British cuisine and its strong farm-to-table ethos. Much of the produce - including native breed beef, pork, and honey - is sourced directly from Walton Lodge Estate, the hotel’s own farm just minutes away, along with locally grown fruit and vegetables that reflect the region’s rich agricultural heritage.
Whether guests are seeking a peaceful escape, a gourmet experience or both, Peak Edge Hotel offers a luxurious yet relaxed setting, exceptional hospitality, and a deep connection to place. The new wine cellar only strengthens its position as one of the most exciting food and drink destinations in the region.
