Set against the rolling hills of the Peak District, Peak Edge Hotel has launched a new luxury walking experience that invites guests to slow down, step outside and savour the simple pleasures of walking and eating well.

Timed to coincide with National Walking Month, which runs throughout May, the two-night ‘Peaks & Plates’ package is available until 31 October 2025, blending country rambles with thoughtful hospitality and a deep-rooted connection to the land.

The Peaks & Plates package is available from £510 for two people and includes:

•    A two-night stay in a Superior Double or Twin Room with breakfast
•    Access to Peak Edge’s recommended walks in the Peak District
•    A luxury picnic hamper featuring seasonal Walton Lodge produce – sourced from the hotel’s own farm, just minutes down the road.
•    A six-course tasting menu at the two AA Rosette Red Lion Restaurant (wine flight optional, from £45pp)

“We’re incredibly proud of where we are - not just geographically, but philosophically,” says Mark Thurman, Managing Director at Peak Edge Hotel. “The Peaks & Plates experience brings together everything we believe in: time in nature, beautiful food, warm hospitality, and the restorative power of place. It’s about giving people space to breathe - and exceptional food to enjoy at the end of the day.”

Peak Edge’s recommended trails include walks through some of the most striking parts of the national park. Guests can take their luxury picnic with them or enjoy in the hotel’s beautiful grounds. Carefully put together by Executive Chef, Alan Rigby, it is stocked with rare-breed sausage rolls and pork pie, homemade sourdough and butter, sliced roast meat, crisps, orchard fruit, cheese, flapjacks, scones with jam, and Franklin and Sons soft drinks.

In the evening, the Red Lion’s tasting menu offers a more refined take on the hotel’s field-to-fork ethos. Guests are treated to a rotating six-course menu that might include dishes such as braised Walton Lodge beef short rib with bone marrow crumb, pan-seared monkfish loin, or a nostalgic iced white chocolate parfait with poached rhubarb – all prepared with a light touch and serious flavour.

“We’ve always been passionate about food that feels rooted and real – but elevated in a way that makes it special,” says Alan. “What’s lovely about this package is that it gives guests the chance to connect the dots between where the ingredients are grown, how they’re prepared, and where they’re enjoyed. Whether it’s a simple pork pie eaten on a hillside or a beautifully plated lamb rack at dinner, it’s all part of the same story.”

Far from a rushed getaway, Peaks & Plates is a chance to reconnect - with nature, with local food, and with the art of slow living in one of Britain’s most beautiful rural corners.
