The Derby Brewing Company is proud and delighted to announce the long-awaited opening of The Kedleston Country House will be on Tuesday 11th August at 1830, with bookings now being taken via our website. The Kedleston will be our fourth premises, the Kedleston Country House, Quarndon, situated on the famous Kedleston Estate. We had previously announced we planned to start work in July 2013 with the intention to open in Spring 2014. Unfortunately due to complications not unusual for a historical building of this age, building works were delayed, but we are sure you will all agree it’s been worth the wait.
The Kedleston Hotel is a grade II * listed building. Work began on the site in 1761, commissioned by Sir Nathan Curzon Bart for the estate, the build was famously overseen by famous Georgian architect, Robert Adam. The building was later listed in February 1967 and opened as a hotel in 1970. The hotel has always been the property of the estate and became somewhat of an icon locally. Over recent years however it has deteriorated rapidly and it has been sad to see the Kedleston Hotel remain closed and boarded up for over four years.
We have worked with the Curzon family on returning this fantastic building back to its former glory. The renovations have been extensive, with a total project cost of in excess of £1.3m, to once again make the most of this stunning Georgian building. We have reworked the building is internal layout to include an upmarket drinking area, including a hidden study, snug and parlour featuring burnt oak floor boards and painted wooden panelling, where you will be able to enjoy a fantastic drinks selection including our own signature cocktails, over 70 wines and of course award winning craft beers. In addition we have revived the original Georgian Restaurant, combining oak parquet floors, box sash windows in a relaxed and space flooded with natural light, where you can enjoy our classically influenced food, with an imaginative modern twist of course locally sourced or home grown on the Kedleston Estate. We have also added an Orangery, which is a fantastic space flooded with natural light, with natural stone floors and a real inside, outside feel, overlooking our new Georgian Gardens. Based on the original Georgian plans, these feature a croquet lawn, salad and herb garden and we even have our own chickens. There will be a boutique hotel operation with five luxury bedrooms, all individually designed with a modern country house feel, launching later in August.
Overall The Kedleston has what we are calling a ‘modern country house feel’, with a light, relaxed and inviting environment, which will appeal both for special occasions but also a perfect mid week treat.
Finally we also have a wedding license and are taking booking for weddings, which can be held in the Orangery or Marquees in our Georgian Gardens.
