Breakfast at Fountain Cottage Cafe in Bellingham Before Exploring Kielder

His Nibs and I were heading to Kielder Water and Forest as part of our Northumberland adventure, but first things first: breakfast! We stopped off at Fountain Cottage in Bellingham for coffee and a bite to eat before continuing our journey.

We had time to catch our breath in this former workhouse. Now a bustling, dog-friendly cafe (and 6 rooms of accommodation, 1 of which is dog-friendly too), we were soon tucking into a ‘Half Monty’ Full English (£12) and a Double-Bacon and Fried Egg Bap (£5.75), with added Mushroom (£1.75).

Louise, our fantastic server, kept us nicely hydrated and made sure we’d got all the condiments etc. that we needed.

Everything was top-notch: the thick slices of farmhouse Bacon were super-tasty, and the Sausage had no ‘repeat factor’ to it. Black Pudding was going down a treat into His Nibs’ tummy, followed swiftly by the unfettered Baked Beans that [mercifully] weren’t slopping with juice!

My Bap was stuffed to the rafters, and Chef had cooked the Egg so its yolk was jammy rather than runny – no embarrassing splatter here, ta muchly!

Our verdict? Not fancy, just good, honest food at a decent price; we said we’d happily stop here again, so Hot Wings given.
