Burgers At The Craft Burger Company in Chesterfield

This venue is now closed Half Term is always a chaotic affair at our nest, so after multiple comings-and-goings of various fellow fledglings of the Chick we decided to take one of them along with us to sample the delights at the newest eatery in Chesterfield town. The seating and tables are also very pared back and there is a painted pallet-effect banquet seat along one of the side walls too, so the vibe is very much geared towards the hip, young, trendy crowd. On one of the walls there is a blackboard with all the craft beers and lagers on offer, and our server told us that they also offer wines and a variety of soft carbonated drinks. The menu is nicely sorted into Beef, Chicken or Vegetarian burgers as well as salad, sides, children’s and desserts sections. The burgers are cooked fresh to order, and you can really taste this when you tuck in, everything is bursting with flavour, nice juicy meat and piping hot in temperature. All our burgers came in blue edged white ceramic dishes lined with red and white Gingham grease proof paper that fitted in very nicely with the trendy, minimalist vibe. His Nibs and I both decided to skip pudding but the Chicks both ordered the Chocolate Brownie and Ice cream and demolished it in nano seconds, saying it was rich and chocolatey and really nice.
The Craft Burger Company has only been open a week and a half, and it was quite lively already at 7pm with several other tables tucking in to delicious smelling burgers. It has a very minimalist, modern, industrial feel to it, with its trendy light bulb lighting strung above the tables, grey painted breeze block walls, exposed brick walls and the very eye-catching striped feature wallpaper on the back wall.
The three ladies of our party opted for water and His Nibs had one of the beers; said beers are at the top end of the price you would expect to pay, but then there is an argument that they are niche products rather than mass produced beers and lagers. Given the speed his Brooklyn lager disappeared I think you can safely say it’s a good drop.
There are no starters to choose from, so we waded straight in to the main event; I had the Curried Chickpea burger, Chick had the Portuguese Chicken burger, her friend had a Classic Chicken burger and The Boy Wonder opted for The Gut Buster beef burger.
All the burgers range between £7.50 -£9.95 and then you choose the side you want which range from £2.95-£3.95; our group had a portion of Onion rings, some Cajun Skinny fries and 2 portions of Cajun Courgette fries.
You can also add extra topping s to any of the burgers for an additional charge of £1.50, but we decided to experience them as they come on our first visit.
The Gut Buster is a 6oz beef patty topped with pulled pork, bacon, cheese and onion rings and it looks a huge stack of yumminess when placed before you; indeed The Man was very taken with it saying how tasty it was. Pulled pork is very a la Mode and this version is a lovely smoky, sweet offering that compliments the other flavours in the burger very well.

The Classic Chicken burger is simply a grilled breast topped with baby gem Lettuce, red onion and tomato, and the Honorary Chick said it was nice and moist and very filling.
My Chick had the Portuguese Burger which comprises a Piri Piri Chicken breast again with lettuce, onion and tomato. She said that there was a great kick to the breast and she could really feel the heat on her tongue, so her dish was clean too.
My own Chickpea burger was a spiced chickpea patty topped with Bhaji strings and mint yoghurt and it had a great spicy flavour to it that I really enjoyed. The patty wasn’t at all dry or cloying and there was just the right amount of yoghurt to add creaminess without oozing out of the brioche bun.

I liked the fact that if you didn’t want the default option of the Brioche burger bun there is a Gluten free bun available. I should mention our side orders too; the Onion rings were handmade affairs as they were all different sizes, the batter was fresh and not at all soggy.
The Cajun fries were nice and crispy too with a great heat from their coating, and the Chick and I both loved our spicy Courgette fries. All in all, a resounding Hot Wings from our table.

I would definitely say that The Craft Burger Company is worth checking out; the food is very tasty and the range of burgers is very extensive with something to suit all tastes. The staff were smartly turned out in red and black shirts and were very polite and helpful.
Lastly, but definitely not least, if you mention “PEAK FM” when you order or book your table, you get 30% discount off your food during February.
