Wire Works Whisky has won top honours in the Spirits Business 2023 Global World Whisky Masters. Wire Works Caduro was awarded a coveted Gold Medal and Wire Works Alter Ego went one better with a Master’s Medal – the highest accolade in the competition.
Wire Works Alter Ego was the only single malt in this year’s ‘world whisky’ category to be awarded a Master’s Medal. Bottled at 51.5% ABV, Alter Ego is a vatting matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks and the Distillery’s signature STR casks. Adjusted distillers’ cut points and a higher proportion of bourbon casks give a different character to the final whisky, with lemon meringue, butter biscuit and tropical fruit.
Wire Works Caduro, bottled at 46.8% ABV, is the essence of White Peak’s core house style, and this Gold Medal joins the IWSC Gold Medal this release was awarded earlier in 2023, making it a double gold winning whisky! This single malt has plenty of orchard fruits, citrus zest, vanilla with a wisp of smoke on the finish. Wire Works Alter Ego and Caduro share the same DNA but show different facets of the Wire Works personality.
Max Vaughan, founder of White Peak Distillery said: “As an emerging brand these awards are a real boost for the Wire Works whisky team. We’re striving to create great whisky that people will enjoy, and build long-term support for how we’re making whisky, where its being made and who is making it. In the 18 months since we launched Wire Works whisky, receiving back-to-back Master’s awards in 2022 and 2023 is beyond what we could have dreamed of – it’s a real motivator and sets the bar high for the future!”
White Peak Distillery was founded seven years ago by husband-and-wife team Max & Claire Vaughan - both originally from Derbyshire – and continues to go from strength to strength. Last year and this year have seen the Distillery winning multiple awards not only for its whisky, but also for its Distillery visitor experiences and the much-celebrated Wire Works Whisky packaging.
The World Whisky Masters are run by the Spirits Business. It’s an annual global competition, judged by a panel of industry professionals in blind tastings.
‘Alter Ego’ and ‘Caduro’ are available via the Distillery shop and online, as well as from select trade partners.
