A gourmet burger featuring whipped goats cheese mousse, a filled vine tomato basket and topped with a whisky-soaked pomegranate seed shortbread crown is going on sale this Saturday to celebrate King Charles’s coronation.
The limited-edition King’s Burger will be on the menu at Annie’s Burger Shack’s restaurants in Nottingham and Derby over the weekend to enable diners to join in with events being held across the country to mark the crowning ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
The dish, which in line with all of the restaurant’s dishes, is available in vegan, veggie and meaty, is designed to reflect King Charles’s life and comprises a patty, salad and bun accompanied by four specially created ingredients.
They are Coronation chicken – representing his mother, the Queen – the King’s own newly created Coronation quiche, which features fresh tarragon, broad beans and spinach, a vine tomato basket, which reflects his love of gardening and is filled with goats cheese mousse, and home-baked Scottish shortbread containing Laphroaig whisky-soaked pomegranate seeds and sweet citrus peel garnish and baked in the shape of a crown.
The burger was created by restaurant owner Annie Spaziano and executive chef Nathan Parker and will go on sale, on a first-come first-served basis, on Saturday afternoon.
It follows in the footsteps of Annie’s last royalty-themed burger, which she created for the Queen’s Platinum jubilee last year.
She said: “Our Jubilee burger was incredibly popular and we couldn’t let a historic occasion such as the first coronation this country has seen for 71 years go by without a burger that is literally fit for a king.
“We’re really proud of this one because of all the work, cooking skills and research that’s gone into it. Everything has been made from scratch and, although there are a lot of diverse ingredients involved, each one complements the other, so you can eat them in any combination you choose.
“Although I’m from America, I’ve lived in the UK for a long time now and I realise what a significant occasion King Charles’s coronation is. It’s also an opportunity for us to create something that is unique and a bit special, which we hope everyone will enjoy.”
The King Burger, which is served with a choice of fries, costs £15.90 and for more information or to book a table visit www.anniesburgershack.com
