The Buxton Crescent hotel re-opens its doors on the 17th May

•    Located in the historic spa town of Buxton, the UK’s highest market town within the rolling hills of the Peak District
•    Buxton Crescent opened in October 2020.  One of England’s finest Georgian buildings, restored over more than a decade, the Crescent is the centrepiece of the historic spa town of Buxton
•    The first UK property from Europe’s largest health spa operator, Buxton Crescent utilises the therapeutic properties of mineral water for which the town is famed

The Peak District National Park has been attracting visitors for 70 years, ever since its designation in April 1951 as the UK's first national park. The rugged landscape covers nearly 1,500km and features heather-flecked moors and gritstone rock formations.  Set amongst the surrounding hills in The Peak District – at a height of over 1000ft – is the historic market and spa town of Buxton.

The centrepiece of the historic spa town of Buxton is Buxton Crescent, and following its successful launch in October last year – after a painstaking restoration period of more than a decade – the hotel is delighted to be able to welcome guests once again.  Buxton Crescent is just a 10-minute drive from the rolling hills of The Peak District which offers picturesque trails through the iconic stony plateaus and deep valleys.  It is the perfect base for those keen to explore the area which is also home to one of the country’s most beautiful stately homes, 16th-century Chatsworth House, Bakewell and The Pavilion Gardens, a beautiful, historic venue dating back to 1871 which shows off the Victorian splendour of Buxton.

The opening of Buxton Crescent has also revived the wellness traditions of this historic spa town and once again Buxton is inviting guests to ‘take the waters’ just as The Fifth Duke of Devonshire had intended.  Buxton’s fame dates back to Roman times, thanks to its pale blue water which bubbles up from thermal springs beneath The Crescent.  However, it was the 18th century which saw the development of the town and Buxton history, with the building of The Crescent by the 5th Duke of Devonshire. He built Buxton Crescent in the 1780’s to establish Buxton as a fashionable spa town and today the hotel harnesses the unique therapeutic properties of the mineral water, offering hydrotherapy, spa treatments, lifestyle programmes, healthy cuisine and superb facilities all in a historic setting.  After a day of exploring the surrounding countryside, guests can unwind and take advantage of this unique spa offering. The hotel is home to three pools – the Thermal Pool which is a fully refurbished Victorian pool boasting the unique feature of having Buxton mineral rich water flowing into it, which is heated and left chemically untreated; a relaxation pool with an atmospheric dark ceiling pierced with shafts of light and an impressive indoor-outdoor rooftop pool.  The spa is also home to eight treatment rooms with a number of the rooms featuring original stained-glass windows. Amongst the treatments on offer, highlights include the Co2 Infusion Mineral Bath with Buxton’s water aiding micro circulation and lowering blood pressure as well as the Signature Wave Balance which takes place in the Thermal Pool and uses therapeutic rhythms to relax the mind and body.

Buxton Crescent’s restoration has combined the outstanding history of the building’s 18th century exterior with features reminiscent of the era, such as the chandeliers, painted ceilings and stained-glass windows.  All this is complimented with stylish furniture and modern comforts along with stunning views through wooden sash windows over the slate roofs of the historic town.

Rates start from £125 per night based on two people sharing an Attic Room on a B&B basis.
