The Cellar Door
Durham, County Durham

The Cellar Door occupies a 13th-century riverside building on Saddler Street, in the heart of Durham’s historic city centre. Tucked away on the route to the cathedral, the restaurant combines converted cellars with river views and a relaxed atmosphere, with no dress code required.

The kitchen serves modern European cuisine, incorporating local and seasonal ingredients into menus that change monthly. Diners can choose from à la carte dishes, a set lunch menu and Sunday lunch, making it an option for everything from a leisurely afternoon meal to an evening out.

Three outdoor terraces overlook the River Wear, with heating and cover extending the appeal of dining outside. The restaurant also caters for celebrations and group gatherings, offering two indoor private dining spaces accommodating up to 15 or 70 guests. Weddings, birthdays and corporate occasions can be arranged with support from a dedicated functions manager, alongside options for private terrace hire.
