As you know dear reader, my flock have already sampled 2 of the delights that are Granny Marys Potted Meats, and were looking forward to meeting the team behind this product at The Bakewell Show earlier in August.
I have to say, having met Will and Sylvia, that they are two of the nicest people you could wish to meet and the passion they have for their product really does shine through. It was lovely to see so many people at their stand sampling their potted meats and giving such positive feedback too, although given the quality of the product it wasn’t surprising that people were full of praise for it! The lowest percentage meat content in their potted meat range is a staggering 80%, and you really can taste the goodness in every mouthful.
We had gone with the intention to try the other 2 products in the meat range, namely the Duck and Orange and Venison, Port and Blueberry varieties. The lovely Sylvia duly spread the fresh crusty bread with the meats and awaited our verdicts - I have to say that they were both beak wateringly amazing. The balance of the Duck and Orange flavours was absolutely spot on, it really was divine. The Boy Wonder declared this to be his favourite of the entire range, after having reacquainted himself with them all again - greedy Boy. I was expecting the Venison variety to be stronger tasting than it actually was and Will explained that he had toned the flavour of the Venison down as some people find it too strong for their tastes. Personally I love all game meats, so the stronger flavour would have been more to my liking but I must say that it was exceptionally tasty as it was. Again the balance of flavours was delightful, as you would expect from this dedicated team.
One little surprise they had up their sleeves was the inclusion of a Vegetable Tapenade, as they hadn’t wanted vegetarians to miss out if family members bought the potted meats. The Tapenade itself is a blend of Sundried Tomato, Quinoa, Chick Peas, Potato & Caramelized Red Onions. It has an intense flavour that lends itself equally well to being spread cold on bread, or mixed in with freshly cooked Pasta. As soon as it hits your tongue you could imagine being in an Italian Village on a hot sunny day, the sunshine just bursts through.
The Granny Marys Team are hoping to add another vegetable delight to their stable too, so I shall look forward to sampling that in the not-too-distant future. If you have never had the good fortune to try these products I can only urge you to try them as soon as you can, they really are fantastic.
You can order these tasty morsels direct from the Granny Marys website, as well as several local outlets : The Loaf at Crich, Scotland Nurseries at Tansley, Chatsworth Farm Shop at Pilsley (near Bakewell), and The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop in Bakewell itself.
Just in case you missed my previous mention of these #pottedtreats then here it is again.
“Very often the Boy Wonder and Myself enjoy nothing more than Fresh Bread with Butter on for Supper, after all simple pleasures are often the best aren’t they? Anyhow, we had been to The Loaf at Crich for breakfast and flown back to the nest with some Plain Sourdough ,Fig Sourdough Bread, and Two Potted meats from Granny Marys ( Beef with Butter, and Fresh Chicken and Ham Hock ) to have for supper that night.
We cut the breads into lovely thick slices and opened the potted meats..... The smell was delicious. Both potted meats were sealed with butter, exactly how I remember them being made when my Grandma used to get such things from her butchers. They have no artificial ingredients, no cereal, no additives and no preservatives in them, and there was a minimum 80% Chicken and Ham and a minimum 84% Beef in each variety. The combination of two beautifully crafted products was just sublime; the loaves had nice thick crusts to them that made you chew and savour the bread properly and so you really got to appreciate the full flavours of the potted meats too.
