BODEGA CANTINA, DERBY, CLOSED IN JUNE 2018
A taste of South America is coming to Derby early next year when independent restaurant and bar operator, Bitters n’ Twisted Venues, opens its fourth Bodega Cantina in Sadler Gate following a £150,000 investment.
Bodega Cantina, set to open in March, is a South American themed bar and restaurant serving a range of dishes from street food favourites such as burritos, nachos and tacos to a range of Peruvian and Ecuadorian inspired main dish classics. The first restaurant launched in Birmingham six years ago, a second opened in Worcester in 2014 and a third hit the Leicester food scene in July 2016.
Bitters n’ Twisted Venues founder Matt Scriven said: “Bodega has been such a hit with our customers across three cities in the Midlands that we know the demand is there for genuine and fresh South American food in playful and quirky surroundings.
“We are proudly independent and whilst we have Bodega venues elsewhere, our ethos is all about making it right for the city. We’re really excited to be opening our first restaurant in Derby; the city, and Sadler Gate in particular, has an exciting and emerging food scene and we hope to be a popular addition.”
Derby will create 15 new jobs including a general manager, chefs and serving staff. The interior décor will feature iconic South American imagery including sugar skulls, Mexican wrestlers and football to create a fun, informal and distinctive environment.“We’ve found that people come to us because they want want something authentic where they can step into the vibrancy, colour and carnival atmosphere associated with South America and I really hope we can bring that to Derby,” added Matt.
Bodega Derby will welcome families with its special kids menu and vegans are also catered for with a dedicated menu. As well as food, the venue also serves up a range of South American inspired hand-made cocktails.
Both Birmingham and Worcester venues have received the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, a fifth for Birmingham, which has also been awarded Best Themed Restaurant at the Birmingham Food & Drink Hospitality Awards and a Food Awards England award.
