Don’t shoot the messenger (me), but six weeks tonight the chap in red will be swinging his way down chimneys into your house! The question is: are you ready for him? I don’t know about you, but there’s always that one person or couple in your family that you struggle to buy a meaningful gift for. It’s easy to cop-out – trust me, I’ve done it pretty much every year since I was independently buying presents! – and resort to vouchers or toiletries. Whilst there’s no denying the value of these sorts of gifts (and they certainly beat novelty/tat/stuff types of pressies) they don’t really tell the recipient that you ‘get’ them.

If you have a foodie in your flock, or someone who just likes going out rather than slaving away in the kitchen themselves, don’t panic, we’ve got plenty of suggestions for you. Over the years, The Man and I have visited all manner of restaurants, bars and gastropubs; all you’ve got to do is visit our website and check out the plethora of reviews. We’ve visited independent owners as well as chain/multi-site businesses, rural places and bustling city centre joints; we have had breakfasts, lunches, bottomless brunches, afternoon teas and dinners, so fill your boots with inspiration!

Most venues do gift vouchers, and by buying a foodie gift in this way you’re helping to a support local venture, especially if you choose an independent. If you’re really sneaky (again, me) you can wangle it so that your giftee just happens to take you along to said eating-out experience, as most vouchers are sold in pairs… you’re welcome.

Well, what are you waiting for? Get reading those reviews and contacting your chosen venue for vouchers. Merry Christmas (there, I’ve said the ‘C’ word!) to you all!
