A Derby restaurant has launched a takeaway menu so customers can enjoy food from around the globe in the comfort of their own homes.

Staff at world banqueting restaurant COSMO, in London Road, are making some of its most popular dishes available for takeaway and have teamed up with JustEat for deliveries too.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, customers will not be allowed to eat their food inside the restaurant’s 300-seat dining area.

COSMO, which normally serves 150 dishes from around the world, has devised a safe collection scheme – which includes 2m markings on the steps outside and minimal contact with customers and delivery drivers.

Among the dishes on offer is satay chicken, chicken jalfrezi, tikka masala and handmade pizza, as well as naan breads, onion bhajis, spring rolls and samosas.

COSMO spokesman Kan Koo said: “We are very excited to be going back into the kitchen and offering some of our customers’ favourite dishes on our new takeaway menu, which can be found on our website and Facebook page.

“We are following the Government guidelines stringently and will allocate time slots for collections, hand sanitiser for customers and robust hygiene procedures in our kitchens.

“We have simplified the menu, but our customers can order a selection of our most popular dishes, cooked by our very own chefs and using the same good quality ingredients which our regular customers will expect.”

While the restaurant has been shut to members of the public, chefs have been cooking hot meals twice a week for staff at Treetops Hospice Care, in Risley.

During this time COSMO has introduced face masks for cooking staff and implemented regular deep cleans in the kitchen with alarms to remind staff to follow procedure.

Although there are 18 branches of COSMO across the UK, the Derby branch is the first to begin offering a takeaway service.

Mr Koo added: “We didn’t want to rush into offering takeaways because it was important to ensure the safety of our staff and our customers. This is a first for the group and we hope that customers are as excited as we are.”

There are three set menus – EZ2Go offers one main dish, two sides and a vegetable dish for between £5.99 and £7.99; Cosmo To Go offers two main dishes, four sides and two vegetable dishes for £14.99 and Banquet To Go offers three main dishes, six sides and four vegetable dishes for £21.99.

Drink are also available including red, white and rose wine beer and a range of soft drinks. The service is available daily from 11.30am-2pm (last order at 1.30pm) and 5.30pm-8pm (last orders at 7.30pm).
