Bear with me, folks, there’s some artistic license coming through – and feel free to sing it in your heads! “Summer Terrace Livin’, it’s come round at last; Summer Terrace Livin’ (thank you, Fischer’s Baslow Hall) had us a blast”. Ok, ok, so it’s not as catchy as the original ‘Summer Nights’, but trust me, it captures the mood of the day that was had, perfectly .
If you could pick a lucid [day]dream to have, this would be it; even Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ would have dream envy!
The sun was shining down for the launch of the Summer Terrace at Fischer’s Baslow Hall, in partnership with Laurent-Perrier Champagne and Gusbourne (both renowned for their exquisite wines) and Franklin and Sons, whose tonics and soft drinks are top-notch.
The [always] impressive gardens were looking even more impressive, with the blooms bringing colour to everywhere you looked; bees were busy collecting pollen, and their gentle hum soothed the soul. Damselflies and Dragonflies were skitting over the ornamental lily-pad throng, pond and, looking out over the perfectly manicured, striped lawn with Boules and Croquet to play, life really couldn’t have got any better.
Nope, I lie; it could! Factor in: tours of the walled garden (which is both functional and decorative) from Fischer’s Head Gardener, Kim Orwin, soothing live music from Emily White, stunning ‘Scents of the Season’ floral displays from Laurenne Hopkins, and mouth-watering food from multi-award-winning Head Chef John Shuttleworth, and you’ve now got an unparallelled level of carefully curated summer living.
Ah, yes, the food. An army of immaculately attired members of the serving team floated seamlessly among the gathered guests with a seemingly uninterrupted flow of salvers laden with [among other things] Maldon Oysters with Cucumber, Crème Fraiche and Sriracha, Goats Cheesecake with Asparagus, Walnut and Morel, flavoursome Smoked Haddock bites, Arancini garnished with Tomato and Parmesan, pulled Duck and Quince Jelly puffs, and magnificent Lobster rolls.
Sweet temptations came in the form of Salted Caramel with Mascarpone, Passionfruit Tartlet with Strawberry and Marshmallow, and a miniature Choux bun filled with an absolutely sublime Dark Chocolate and [fresh] Mint Ganache. Just from these canapés, it’s easy to see why Fischer’s Baslow Hall is one of the County’s premier places to dine at; imagine the full-on [AA and Michelin recognised] dining experience!
So, fine fillies of the ‘Shire (and your handsome consorts, if you choose), trot along to Fischer’s Baslow Hall and bask in beautiful surroundings whilst taking your fill of fine wines, Champagne and world-class cuisine.
Tables are available now for the Terrace (or inside), for Lunch or Dinner: call 01246 583259 or visit www.fischers-baslowhall.co.uk and hit the ‘book online’ button. Summer Terrace luncheons are available Thursday-Sundays.
The final word must, however, go to the delightful Dawn-Elizabeth Rudd who very kindly invited us along to celebrate the Summer Terrace launch. Heartfelt thanks to you, lovely; it was, as always, marvellous to see you.
