Breakfast At Made @ No 18, Alfreton

Monday 22 Jun 2015 by Sticky Beak

This venue is now closed

The weather may have been hit-and-miss on Saturday and Sunday, but there was definitely nothing miss at all about my weekend. Saturday morning began with nothing in particular planned, other than a quick trip into the supermarket for my Daddy Birds Fathers Day present (a rather nice bottle of Single Malt).

As we came out of the supermarket, The Man turned to the Chick and myself and asked if we fancied going to Made@No.18  for Breakfast ;  we just looked at each other as if to say “what a daft question“ before swiftly replying  “yes“. So off we flew up the road and perched ourselves at one of the tables, and were greeted with a cheery hello.

There were already several tables taken by like minded folk who wanted to have a marvellous breakfast in great surroundings, and we soon decided on what we wanted : The full Derbyshire Breakfast for His Nibs, The Breakfast Ciabatta for my Chick and I had the Eggs Royale (softly poached eggs with Salmon and Hollandaise sauce on a toasted Muffin). We also had a couple of large Lattes and a Hot Chocolate with Cream and Marshmallows.

I noticed there was a dog under one of the tables with its owners and asked if the premises were dog friendly; they most definitely are and even provide a bowl of water for our Canine family members. I did mention to The Boy Wonder that I really ought to start to compile a list of dog friendly establishments as I think a lot of people would find it useful. So if you know of any places that allow dogs dear reader please feel free to comment on one of our posts, or even tweet us.

Our food, when it arrived, was piping hot and really, really tasty. You can always tell when something has been cooked from scratch and fresh to order, it just tastes so much better than mass produced, “kept warm in the oven in trays“ stuff.

I had to stifle a little chirrup of mirth at my Chick’s face when her Ciabatta arrived - it was huge! However, it will come as no surprise to you when I say that she demolished the lot, and declared it to be brilliant. The ingredients aren’t skimped on either, quality or quantity wise, which I think is one of the reasons Made is so popular; that and the friendly service and the relaxed atmosphere of the premises. I keep meaning to pop over for lunch, but life somehow keeps overtaking me - I may need to make a (very) belated New Year’s resolution to do it!.

I know I don’t really need to say it again, but I will.... “HOT WINGS“ Team Made :)

So, the day got off to a flying start, but it didn’t end there... my naughty streak surfaced later on too, as you can read about in my next review......
