My 2nd Birthday, Dinner At Blueys
Published On Thursday 18 Jun 2015 by Sticky Beak
This venue is now closed Time flies when you’re having fun, and I can’t quite believe that I have been eating at some fantastic places for two years now! The Boy Wonder, Chickadee and I decided to go back to where we did our first review - Blueys Aussie Bar and Steakhouse in Alfreton. The Man and I go to the Comedy nights (which are held every other month, see Blueys website for more details) and often partake of one of their delicious Bluey Burgers, but it has been a while since we went and had a steak dinner there. We weren’t the only ones in celebrating our birthday; there was another large group in the restaurant area as well as a few other couples. For starters we had 2 portions of BBQ Spare Ribs and the Chick had the Spicy Chicken Wings, and they were all very tasty so it didn’t take long for them to be gone. For his main course The Boy opted for the exotic meats mixed grill, I had the Iberico Pork and our girl had the Trio of Lamb Chops (with Salad instead of the chips, onion rings and tomatoes). The thing I love about the chips at Blueys is that they are proper comfort food affairs; they have a gooeyness to them that just calls to that inner space in your tummy and brain - you know that bit that goes “aaaaaahhh” in sheer bliss. Mixed Grills are normally filling affairs and this one just about had His Nibs beaten, but he munched gamely on after having a little rest halfway through. I think my teasing about “if you don’t finish your dinner you can’t have pudding“ spurred him on a bit too, as we had pre-ordered Dan the Chefs ( what should be) world famous Chocolate Mousse. My little Chick gave it her all too, but couldn’t quite finish off her third Lamb Chop. I, however, had no such trouble in polishing off my Creamy tasting Pork, and there were two bits of it! The piece de resistance has to be the Puddings; these guys should win awards. The Boy and I both had the Chocolate Mousse and our babe had the Creme Brulee (which again needs to be pre-ordered). Our beady little eyes were popping out on stalks when new girl Zoe brought them to our table. My chick gave the Caramelised sugar top a good whack with her spoon and was rewarded with that pleasing crunch that all good Brulees give, and she said the crème was lovely and smooth and tasty. Our Mousses demand a certain amount of respect, given the richness of them, and we savoured every last morsel. They coat your mouth with their velvety caress and you can’t help but sigh in satisfaction. I think they are my favourite pudding from anywhere, and I have had some absolute corkers on my travels around the county. As well as pre-ordering the Chocolate Mousse and Creme Brulees, Blueys also have a few “ food challenges “ that you can take part in if you pre-order them : Flaming Hot Chicken Wings ( 9.5 MILLION Scoville strength Chilli), The 48oz Ultimate Bluey Burger and the Mighty 60oz Steak. There are time limits and conditions to these Challenges, but if you’re successful you get a certificate, 50% discount off the challenge dish and your name on their wall of fame. Something a bit different to do with a group of friends or even for a Stag do with a twist? Thank you for taking care of us as always guys and for being the catalyst for this little blog. Hot Wings ahoy for Team Blueys!! :) A bit of an update from Leonie at Blueys (Mrs Bluey herself) - The challenges are now free if you manage to complete them in the time allowed, if you want an extra 15 minutes to finish them then you can get them at half price.
