Ice Creams & Dreams Bakewell

This venue is now closed As you know dear reader, I love food - all kinds of food - but I do like sweet things a little bit more ! So it was with much delight that my little flock flew over to Bakewell to a very colourful Ice Cream Parlour called “ Ice Creams and Dreams “. Never has a place been better named for when I looked at the menu all my dreams had come true. There was an exhaustive selection of Movenpick Ice creams on offer, as well as Frozen Yoghurt and Sorbets, which you could combine to make your own Sundaes or have the suggested ones. There were Waffles too, and Chocolate Brownie and Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake. We ordered a Twix Chocolate ice Cream Milkshake, Cherry Coke Ice Cream Float and a Latte to drink ( the Boy Wonder was saving his calorie allowance for his treat – pfffffttt, amateur ; us girls know that Bank Holiday Calories are null and void ! ) . After much deliberation, oohing and aaahing we finally decided what sweet treats we were having. I nearly ordered 2 ice creams but thought that my levels of pigginess really should remain in the nest. The Chickadee had a Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake with 2 scoops of Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream and Whipped Cream, I made my own “Dream boats and Petticoat“ Sundae consisting of Creme Brulee, Rum Raisin and Cinnamon Ice Creams with Warm Chocolate Sauce, Chopped Nuts and Whipped Cream on top and The Man Birds Dreamboat creation contained Creme Brulee, Caramelita and White Chocolate Ice Creams topped with Salted Caramel, Warm Belgian Chocolate Sauce and Whipped Cream. Seriously, all our eyes popped out on stalks when they arrived at the table. Truthfully they looked too good to eat really but it would’ve been a shame to waste the efforts of Natalie and her staff wouldn’t it? My little chick gave it her best effort but the last few spoonfuls of her Fudge Cake defeated her; luckily Man Bird and I hopped into the breach and cleaned the plate. I kid you not when I say that it was the best Chocolate fudge Cake I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a fair few in my time), but this demanded some serious respect reader. It is not the kind of cake you just carelessly cram into your beak. Oh no, this hollers at you to savour each and every morsel and let the rich, dense chocolate caress all your taste buds. The two Ice Cream Sundaes were presented in proper Sundae dishes, and all the Flavours could have entire paragraphs devoted to them they were that good. Because the main focus is the Ice cream the quality really does need to be top-notch and the Movenpick range is superb - the flavours are crisp and clear and there were chunks of white chocolate in His-Nibs ice cream and the sweet Cinnamon was sublime in my ice cream. It won’t surprise you to know that both myself and The Man finished our Sundaes, and we thoroughly enjoyed each and every beakful. The Venue itself transports you to an All American Diner that you can imagine the cast of Grease or Back To The Future chatting and eating in. The staff all wear authentic “costumes“ too. Our server Natalie (who also owns the Parlour) had a “Pink Ladies“ Jacket on and her dark hair tied in a bun with a scarf knotted around it. Other staff have those gorgeous full petticoated skirts on with belts cinching their waists, but they weren’t in when we paid our visit. The Black and White checked floor showed off the Bubblegum Pink and White seating booths perfectly, and I tried to convince His Majesty that he could get the Juke Box into our car without being noticed! The team are currently extending the premises upstairs, and this will be the same theme as downstairs but with the addition of authentic pinball machines. When the work is finished it will provide a really unique eatery for the area, something that I hope you will all embrace and support. It has the kind of atmosphere that has universal appeal to all age groups; Grandparents could take the kids there for a treat, Teenagers could gossip and giggle over a delicious Sundae and Couples could just unwind in comfort and relax. Everywhere was spotlessly clean from the tables to the serving counter and the uniforms, and the service was very friendly and efficient. A visit to Ice Creams and Dreams would be the cherry on top for your Bank Holiday Weekend, or during the Easter School Holidays. If you can’t make it so soon however a visit anytime will lift your spirits and revive your taste buds. We had a brilliant family experience, “Hot Wings“ a go-go for this venue :)
