Derbyshire’s own Birchover Blue Cheese has been shortlisted for the Great British Cheese Awards 2018 in the Best Blue Cheese category!
Birchover Blue is made by Owner and Head Chef of The Red Lion in Birchover, Matteo Frau, who makes the cheese at a local dairy farm. It is only available from the Red Lion and is subject to availability. If you've never tried it, you're missing a treat: creamy, full-flavoured with the subtle piquancy of a true blue cheese.
Now in its third year, the Great British Cheese Awards aim to recognise, promote and reward excellence in the UK's artisan cheese industry
No other cheese awards give the discerning public such a large voice in recognising and rewarding the wide variety of outstanding British cheese. Rather than relying on tastings at country shows, these awards bring together of thousands of people online along with industry experts, food writers and celebrities to give the artisan cheese industry unparalleled prominence.
Last year over 9,000 people voted for their favourite cheeses, producers and retailers and organisers have plans to make this year's awards even greater.
