COSMO Derby recently closed its doors to the public for a few days as work took place on refurbishing the city centre restaurant.

Additional booth seating for large groups, a specially-commissioned mural and a more open plan dining area are key features of the new-look COSMO Derby.

The restaurant chain’s flagship branch in Manchester city centre is the inspiration behind the refurbishment at COSMO Derby. Designed by the multi award-winning Robert Angell – who has previously worked with Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing – COSMO Manchester was shortlisted for a Restaurant & Bar Award for its architectural design in 2018.

COSMO operations director Kan Koo is excited about work done at the Derby branch, which closed the restaurant from Monday, April 1 until Friday, April 5.

He said: “I’m sure our guests will like the improvements we have made."

“It’s a beautiful, art deco building with a wealth of history. We wanted to introduce a host of new design innovations to rival our Manchester branch while also staying sympathetic to its roots, which date back to 1934 when it was the Gaumont cinema."

“Our live cooking stations remain and our popular dessert counter is new and improved; with more variety of cakes, puddings and sweet treats. Our ice-cream machine, popcorn machine and chocolate fountain – which always go down well with younger guests – take centre stage in the dessert section.”

COSMO world buffet opened in the former Zanzibar nightclub, London Road, in May 2013. It is one of Derby’s most established restaurants and is particularly popular with families.

Diners can enjoy a variety of authentic dishes from across the globe; from Chinese, Thai and Indian to Italian-inspired pizza and pasta. And, best of all, it’s unlimited – meaning guests can go back for seconds or event thirds.

In 2018, COSMO Derby scooped the title of Buffet Restaurant of the Year and Best Oriental Establishment in the Midlands at the Food England Awards.

Mr Koo added: “We can’t wait for Derby’s diners to come along and see how we’ve improved the COSMO experience.”
