Croots Farm Shop owner Steve Croot named Derbyshire Food Hero

The owner of popular farm shop Croots has been named as the winner of the Derbyshire Food Hero of the Year Award.

Steve Croot, who runs the farm shop at Farnah House Farm, Wirksworth Road, Duffield, with wife Kay, received the accolade from Derbyshire Life magazine.

Readers voted on the top food and drink establishments in the county – rating Steve as the Food Hero of the Year.

“I am thrilled to have been chosen as the Food Hero of the Year by readers of Derbyshire Life magazine,” said Steve, who launched Croots Farm Shop in June 2008.

“We are very proud of all the wonderful food and drink that is produced in Derbyshire. We sell products from around 40 producers from within a 50 mile range of Croots – many from within Derbyshire. And, of course, we make and bake many products on the premises at Croots too – helping to reduce food miles and offer food with provenance.

“The success and popularity of Croots Farm Shop is very much the result of a team effort and I’d like to pay tribute to the brilliant staff here, some of whom have been with us since we launched more than ten years ago, and who are so pivotal to the achievements of our organisation.

“I’d also like to thank our loyal customers, who have supported us from day one.”

Steve’s Food Hero Award is the latest in a long line of awards presented to Croots, which now has more than 100 accolades to its name. This includes product awards such as the Great Taste Awards, and accolades for the store itself, including the People’s Choice in the Midlands Award in the Family United Business Awards 2017.

Croots Farms Shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm (Shires Eatery until 4.30pm) and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Croots runs Fresh Fish Thursdays between 9am and 1pm on Thursdays.
