Check In At The Loews Madison Hotel & Dinner At Joes Seafood

After a very efficient journey through passport control at Dulles Airport we had a short transfer with Super shuttle.com to our hotel, Loews Madison on 15th Street NW. A very smartly attired doorman took our luggage through to reception for us where Stephanie and her colleague swiftly checked us in.

Our room is fantastic; two queen size beds dominate the room and there is an ample desk and chair to work at if needed (guess where I am!). In the bathroom there is a double sized shower enclosure with toiletries already in and the vanity unit has tissues, cotton pads and ear swabs, flannels, hand and body creams all ready to use.

There is a vast amount of wardrobe space and it actually has more than half a dozen hangers in, so you can unpack fully for a change. It hasn’t taken us long to spread out all our stuff around the room, so it looks like a home-from-home already.

A quick change of clothing was executed then we headed out to see The White House, along with the rest of the world it seemed! There are some barriers in place ready for the parade tomorrow to mark America’s Independence Day, so hopefully we will be able to experience the joy of a city celebrating.

Being a flock of gluttons it wasn’t long before our thoughts turned to food so we began to scout round for a suitable venue. Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab restaurant ticked all the boxes; The Chick and I both fancied seafood and His Nibs was in the mood for a slab of meat.

Despite just turning up ad hoc, the maitre d’ accommodated us at a lovely booth table from where I could indulge in my favourite hobby; people watching. I loved the high ceilings and colonnades in the restaurant and the lighting provided a welcoming amber glow that had us relaxed in next to no time.

Our glasses were filled with iced water, which given the dehydrating effect of air travel tasted like the best water in the world, ever. Throughout the evening the glasses were always kept refreshed and topped up, seamlessly and without us having to ask. A basket of assorted breads was placed on the table for us to nibble at whilst we decided what to have from the very extensive menu.

Eventually we were ready to order; The Man had a 12oz Filet Mignon cooked medium with Cottage fried Potatoes and crispy Onion strings, Chickadee had the Crispy Fried Shrimps with fried Asparagus, and I had Grilled Seafood Platter (Scallops, Lobster tails and Jumbo Shrimp) with Steamed Asparagus in Lemon Butter.

Our lovely server,Deja, did warn us that all the dishes were generously portioned and boy she wasn’t wrong! The food was incredible; all the meats were succulent and juicy, just bursting with flavour. I think the only food that went back to the kitchen may have been a rogue onion string that evaded our beady eyes, but that would be all, as every last morsel got savoured.

We really were full at this point, but I defy anybody to reject a slice of Key Lime Pie; it just isn’t going to happen on my watch! Again Deja gave us a useful tip; the slices served are big enough for two to share and they do half slices of the pies for those with smaller appetites. We ordered a slice of the Key Lime Pie and shared it between us all; it was the perfect balance of creaminess and citrus zest with a deep biscuit base that melted in the mouth.

Safe to say that we were feeling rather smug with our first night choice of restaurant; if you ever venture to Washington D.C then be sure to pay Joes Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab restaurant a visit. Hot Wings definitely deserved by the incredible team here :)
