Catch 22 Appears To Be Permanently Closed
If this information is incorrect then please let us know

I can’t believe how quickly time is going at the moment, so much so that I was a bit slow off the mark organizing a meal out to celebrate my little blogs third birthday. We decided to invite The Tribal Elders along too, seeing as they are quite a feature of the blog (and they have been fairly well behaved lately ;) ).

As you know they do like fairly traditional food, especially My Daddy Bird, and what better traditional dish than Fish and Chips? One of our previous review venues, Catch 22, had just reached the magnificent milestone of 1000 reads, so we thought we would not only celebrate our birthday but also go and congratulate them on their achievement.

We had a lovely table at the rear of the restaurant due to being a larger group, next to the huge tank of marine fish which were a dazzling array of colours. Due to it being a school night, and mindful of exams, we decided to just have main courses and coffees in order to be back at the nest at a respectable hour.

Both The Elders had Cod and Chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce, Chickadee had the Paella, The Boy Wonder had an 8oz Ribeye steak with Peppercorn sauce and I chose a dish from the catch of the day specials menu; Monkfish wrapped in Parma Ham and served on Provencale tagliatelle. There were some tantalising aromas emanating from the kitchen and we couldn’t wait to taste chefs’ morsels when they came out.

It wasn’t long before our patience was rewarded with Dan and Jason bringing our beautiful looking choices to the table, and we were soon tucking in. Both Elders were impressed by the light beer batter on their Cod and said how moist the fish was too, and they were bowled over by the “proper” mushy peas.

Those readers of a certain age will remember having to soak peas overnight in water with one of those white tablets and will remember the distinct yummy taste and texture of peas done in this way. The Tartare sauce was also homemade too so that you got a lovely fresh clean taste on the palate with no artificial undertone; safe to say that the Fish and Chips were getting a huge round of applause in this camp :)

The Paella is a classic Chicken, Chorizo and Fresh seafood affair, and it’s a fair old plateful let me tell you; there was plenty of chunky Salmon, mussels and squid to be seen and a massive King Prawn in its shell sat proudly on top. My Chick said that it had a beautiful flavour to it and had been nicely seasoned, she just couldn’t finish it all due to it being such a generous portion; interestingly, she left rice rather than the seafood, the logic being that rice can easily be done at home anytime.

Across the table from me My Man was thoroughly enjoying his medium cooked Ribeye with its superb homemade chips, although My Mummy Bird had purloined his field mushroom quicker than the blink of my beady eye! The Steak was melt in the mouth and had a lovely depth of flavour to it, and the Peppercorn sauce was nice and creamy with just a hint of warmth to it. So, another meal had got the seal of approval from my flock.

Could my meal make it a full house of fantasticness? In a nutshell, yes. The Monkfish was incredibly juicy and flavoursome, with the Parma Ham lending its delicate flavour to the mix, and the Tagliatelle had been done perfectly al dente too. The Chargrilled vegetables in a rich tomato sauce were just the icing on the cake, so I was a jolly happy little birdie with my meal choice. My Chick had also ordered a side portion of Chargrilled Asparagus to share with me and we both agreed that it was lovely.

The only thing left to do was order a round of coffees and a Hot Chocolate for The Chickadee and toast the Blogs birthday. We made our way back to the nest reflecting on a great family evening full of laughter and good food. Thank you for such a great evening Catch 22, and many congratulations on your success too :)
