Trying Out The New Nutty Chocolate Spread From Nutural World

You may recall that I sampled some of the products from Nutural World last year, after The Man Bird had been to The Fine Food North Show; Pistachio Butter, Almond Butter and Cashew Butter. Well, we both went this year and I got to meet the man behind the brand, Mordechai.

Mordechai has been busy over the last 12 months developing his range of products, and he had one in particular that he wanted me to try: Nutty Chocolate Spread. I like chocolate, and I like nuts, so I was fairly confident that this was going to be my kind of thing . Pancake Day had just been and gone, and Beak H.Q had got in a variety of fillings for the pancakes including Golden Syrup, Maple Syrup, Ice Cream, and Nutella.

I had got it into my head the Nutural World’s Nutty Chocolate Spread was going to be just like Nutella; how wrong I was! Tasting the pair of Chocolate and Nut containing spreads side by side highlighted how superior the Nutural World product is. The first thing I liked (and yes it is lazy!) was the fact that the Nutural World spread actually did spread at room temperature, without the need to warm it first. Nutella is always solid and difficult to spread onto toast straight from the jar; not being a food techie, I’m not sure whether this is down to the Palm Oil (high in saturated fat - boo, hiss!) that Nutella has in it?

If you love Hazelnuts, Nutella is perfect for you; sometimes though you want a gentler, more rounded taste, and this is where Mordechai’s Chocolate Nutty Spread wins hands-down. Although Hazelnuts are still in the Chocolate Nutty Spread, they are behind Almonds and Cashews in the ingredient list. Cocoa powder is a major component of both products, and everyone loves the chocolate hit they get from it.

Nutural World use Dates to give their product sweetness, and obviously, natural unprocessed ingredients are better for the body. Not only that, but they have the added advantage of their fibre content being included. This does mean that the Nutty Chocolate Spread doesn’t have that homogenously smooth texture of its mass-produced rival; it has the faintest hint of “bittiness” in it, something that younger kids might not like as much.

Personally, I think the taste is cleaner and more natural – sometimes less (ingredients) is more. What impressed me most about Nutural World’s Chocolate Nutty Spread though was the fact that it’s just as intensely chocolatey as its commercial rival. If you put the two products in a blind-fold taste test, the only thing that would give Nutural World’s Chocolate Nutty Spread away is its different texture; it really does taste every bit as good (and then some!) as the more well known product. Two thumbs up, and Hot Wings, from me!
