Derby's Cathedral Quarter Hotel Blends HRH-Worthy Settings with a Comfy-Casual Atmosphere

Having previously played host to HRH Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Cathedral Quarter Hotel has cemented a reputation as one of the region’s most prestigious hotspots. However, the team at Derby’s leading boutique hotel are on a mission to prove that a royal title isn’t necessary for enjoying the VIP treatment.

The hotel has its home on St Mary’s Gate in The Cathedral Quarter, winner of the 2016 Great British High Street City Location Award, a hub to shopaholics and drink and dinners fans alike. The Grade II listed building hosts a wealth of original features and rich history, but the service and atmosphere is slick, sincere and bang up to date; there’s no standing on ceremony here.

With a strong focus on attention to detail and genuine warmth, the recently revamped front of house team have a passion for getting to know guests and an informal friendliness that isn’t often found in a setting as impressive as the Cathedral Quarter Hotel.

Luke Gregory, General Manager of The Cathedral Quarter Hotel says “For years, we’ve had a great reputation as an upmarket establishment, but upmarket doesn’t mean exclusive. We create an environment that welcomes everyone, where each guest is a friend with unique quirks and preferences to discover. Whether you’re looking for a giggly afternoon tea with the girls, a romantic evening with a dinner and a show or a family day out followed by a traditional Sunday roast, we have it. It’s just we do it against a backdrop that is so stunning you can’t help but make it a talking point!”

The 38 rooms range from singles to suites, each in a contemporary, airy style that boasts luxurious bathrooms stocked with complimentary goodies, inviting beds facing 26” flat screen TVs and mini-bars bursting with treats. Room only rates start at just £45 a night, but with one of the most sumptuous breakfast on offer in Derby, it would seem wasteful for both early birds and late risers not to take advantage of the eggs benedict and bubbly available on the champagne breakfast menu.

For foodies, Derbyshire is a region plentiful in local produce, something the experienced chefs in the award-winning Opulence restaurant pride themselves in putting to good use on their seasonal menus. The hotel has recently appointed two specially trained patisseries chefs, who have been instrumental in refreshing the afternoon tea menu with a selection of sinfully sweet homemade cakes and desserts.

The Chef’s Table is becoming an increasingly popular choice for those who like to keep their fingers on the pulse of the latest restaurant trends, but at the moment only establishments at the top of their game have this fresh and exciting new concept on offer. A culinary adventure that combines a spectacular meal with a little kitchen theatre, a qualified sommelier will lend their considerable skills to match wines to each course, a little extra special something that can’t be found elsewhere in the city.

Focussed on offering something for everyone, Cathedral Quarter Hotel have a number of fresh and innovative offers throughout the year for both popping in for a bite to eat, or those looking to stay a little longer.
