Exotic Meats Join the Menu at Derby's Newest Steakhouse with 'Wild Meat Wednesday'

Derby’s newest premier steakhouse which opened in February this year is adding something a little different to the menu. Every Wednesday the Belfry Steakhouse will offer everyone the chance to try exotic cuts of meat such as Ostrich, Water Buffalo, Kangeroo and more, as well as giving people the option to choose new cuts through their social media pages.



With up to 11 different cuts of steak already available, the new steakhouse is becoming a popular hit with quirky dishes and over 150 steak dish combinations. The recent popularity has led to the steakhouse deciding to open on Wednesdays offering unique cuts of meat as well as working on a new lunch menu.


Paul Hurst owner of the Belfry Steakhouse and Old Bell Hotel has said, “The new quirky cuts of meat will give people the opportunity to try some new and exciting flavours in the heart of Derby.”


Each week the steakhouse will be adding 3 unique cuts of meat for customers to try, such as Wild Boar, Goat and Bison. Each cut will be prepared using the Belfry’s special imported Spanish ‘Josper’ oven used by Michelin star restaurants across the UK.


Head chef Chris Marshall has said, “We’re super excited to be cooking with new cuts of meat and crafting quirky dishes for people to try. It’ll be really interesting getting people to choose some of the cuts of meat we go for. One week we could be cooking Bison, the next it could be Reindeer.”


As exotic meats are less common in restaurants the Belfry Steakhouse is working with suppliers that support conservation, sustainability, welfare and hygiene. Mr Hurst said, “Our exotic cuts of meat are sourced from approved, award-winning suppliers that actively participate in protection programs.”


Mr Hurst added: “The Belfry Steakhouse is all about enjoying great tasting cuts of meat that are respected and responsibly sourced through local suppliers.”


‘Wild Meat Wednesday’ will be available every Wednesday from the 26th April at the Belfry Steakhouse.
